Facilitator for Seminar 2: Communication Skills in the Aspiring Leaders Program.

Successful applicants will be co-facilitating this seminar in person.

Course Description: Seminar 2: Communication Skills

The content of the Communication seminar will increase participants’ understanding of the interpersonal dynamics involved in communications activities, how personal biases can impact our ability to communicate, the role of trust in communications, and the importance of effectively managing power dynamics.

Facilitators will focus on teaching fundamental communication skills, including how to manage conflict, how to skillfully have difficult conversations, impact of social media, and how to communicate effectively with different audiences.

Overview/Description of and Responsibilities associated with Position:
  • Preparing and facilitating the seminar content.
  • Noting attendance and contacting the ALP Coordinator.
  • Preparing a Bridging Assignment.
  • Liaising with ALP Coordinator regarding questions or issues that may arise.
  • Meeting with ALP Coordinator before the seminar begins for a seminar orientation.
Specifics
  • Cohort I: approximately 20 participants
  • The course will be taught in person
  • Date of Seminar 2: October 18-19, 2025
  • Friday session: 1:00-5:00pm, Saturday session 8:30-3:30pm
  • Location to be determined
Reporting to: Gordon Walters, ALP Coordinator
Stephanie Isenor-Ryan, Executive Director, ELCNS (transitioning from Stephanie to Sharlene Whelan, incoming Director of ELCNS)
Relevant Experience:
  • Graduate of the ILA/ALP considered an asset
  • Strong leadership at the school level
  • Leadership experiences at the provincial level and/or regional/board level
  • Relevant experiences leading and facilitating sessions dealing with fundamental communication skills, managing conflict, impact of social media, and how to communicate effectively with different audiences
  • Experience using Moodle
  • Experience developing PowerPoints/Google Slides

Remuneration: $500.00 a day for preparation and facilitation of the seminar.
Travel, accommodation, and meal expenses covered.

Please note the following guidelines for contract positions with ELCNS:
  • Whereas the facilitation of this seminar partially occurs during a school/workday (i.e., Friday afternoon) being released from your current position to fulfill this commitment would be part of your partnering organization's contribution to the ELCNS partnership; however, it should be discussed in advance of applying with your supervisor.
  • It will not result in loss of pay for your regular workday.
  • The stipend received from ELCNS is to cover the preparation work which occurs outside the regular workday.
  • If a substitute is required for the Friday, ELCNS will cover this cost.
