Our Vision
Empowering every educational leader in Nova Scotia through rigorous, progressive, and responsive professional learning.
Our Mission
Improve education for all students in Nova Scotia by collaborating with partners to develop accessible, diverse, inclusive and equitable leadership.
Our Core Values in Action
Inclusion: Creating an accessible, equitable, and culturally, linguistically, and socially responsive culture.
Etuaptmumk: Reciprocal knowledge sharing and understanding.
Relationships: Building authentic connections.
Courage: Standing up for what you believe in and acting against injustice.
Responsive: Being proactive and adapting quickly to changing circumstances.
Inclusion
An inclusive culture is where everyone feels respected and ensures all voices are collaborating to create an organization that is accessible, equitable, and culturally, linguistically, and socially responsive. It is our responsibility to develop structures, practices, and programs that support the well-being and achievement of every student so they feel accepted, safe, and valued.
Etuaptmumk
Etuaptmumk (Ed-do-up-dim-moomk; two-eyed seeing) is a Mi'kmaw philosophy that emphasizes the interconnectedness of all things. Two-eyed seeing requires learning together and from each other. Better outcomes and a clearer focus are more likely if multiple perspectives are in collaboration. Etuaptmumk embraces our diversity and differences in reciprocal knowledge sharing and understanding. ELCNS celebrates Indigenous culture and promotes inclusion and diversity in all aspects of its work.
Relationships
As an organization, we must be respectful, listen to others with integrity, and have honest and truthful conversations. Authentic partnerships – complete with active listening, empathy, and mutual respect – foster positive and productive interconnectedness that will lead to a collaborative, innovative and resilient organization with community at its centre.
Courage
Courage is at the heart of doing what is right for the development of the best possible educational leaders in Nova Scotia. As an organization, challenging the status quo and actively addressing systemic barriers means we will have to make difficult decisions. Having courage means standing up for what you believe in and standing up against injustice, even when no one else is standing with you. It takes bravery to make a difference.
Responsive
Being responsive means adapting to change quickly and underlies our ability to be intentional in our growth as an organization. Responding to evidence, being reflective of our own work, and supporting priorities and initiatives will create the conditions for dynamic and impactful programs and experiences for educational leaders throughout Nova Scotia.
