
Gordon Walters is the coordinator of the Aspiring Leaders Program and is excited about the leadership opportunities available to aspiring leaders during these dynamic, changing times in education.
Gord has over 25 years of experience as a school principal. He recently retired from the South Shore Regional Centre for Education, where he served as the Acting Coordinator of Principal Support and Evaluation. In this role, he was involved with the Nova Scotia Educational Leadership Standards and Teaching Standards. Gord has been with the SSRCE since 2007, working as both a consultant and a principal, and he has participated in several NSELC modules. Prior to returning to Nova Scotia, Gord was a principal in Alberta for 10 years, overseeing schools from Grades K-12, including serving as principal of one of Canada’s first online schools. He also played a leadership role in several major school renovations and builds in both Alberta and Nova Scotia.
Gord continues to serve as a University/Faculty Advisor for pre-service teachers at St. FX and MSVU and has previously held a similar position with the University of Alberta.
Gord holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Education from Dalhousie University and a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from San Diego State University. He is also a graduate of the Nova Scotia Instructional Leadership Program (NSILA).
